Ithaca NY- A much anticipated showdown between the top two boys lacrosse teams in Section IV played out Tuesday evening as the Corning Hawks met the Ithaca Little Red. Forget the chilly, blustery, rainy conditions, these teams came ready to play. Or, at least it seemed that way. Kyle Clarkson got the Hawks on the board first just over a minute into the game with an unassisted goal that delighted Corning fans. Little did they realize their cheers would be stifled until the waning moments of the first half. Between that time Ithaca would build a 7-2 lead by intermission, followed by a seven goal assault by game's end and finish with a 14-4 victory. During the game the Little Red seized every opportunity, taking control with a barrage of shots and goals and a blanket defense led by Senior Winston Wenham and outstanding Goalie play by Max Yavitt.Ithaca improves to 10-1 while Corning falls to 8-2. Both meet again Thursday May 3rd in Corning.

Painted Post NY- Mike Abrunzo and Dylan Manwaring combined on a two-hit shutout to post a 3-0 Horseheads win over the Corning Hawks Friday. Abrunzo scored the game's first run after he delivered a two-out single in the first inning and was driven in by Todd Meehan's double. From there it was a pitcher's duel between Abrunzo and Pat Fero of Corning.Both were masterful keeping hitters at bay. Fero went the distance, giving up runs in the fifth and sixth innings, striking out five batters along the way. Abrunzo gave way to Manwaring in the sixth who retired the side in order in his two innings of relief. The Raiders improve to 6-4 while Corning drops to 6-5.

Corning, NY- The Corning Hawks boys lacrosse team continued it's undefeated run, now, eight games into the 2012 season with a one-sided win over Chenango Valley Thursday night at Memorial Stadium.Jordan Crusha got the game started 90 seconds into the game with his first of three goals, taking a pass from Brandon Griffin and fired it point blank past Warrior goalie Bobby Cicak. Two minutes later Marrice Pedroso tied the game with an unassisted goal, however it was the only score by Valley until the four minute mark of the fourth. In between, the Hawks scored 15 times, then added two final scores to finish with an 18-2 victory and run their record to 8-0. Jordan Crusha led the Hawks with 3 goals and an assist, Jake Woodhouse returned from a brief hospital stay and stuck three goals in net, and Sam Cooper hit the trifecta with three goals and an assist. Corning travels to Northport Long Island for a 3PM game Saturday.

Corning, NY- The win streak is now seven straight Lacrosse wins for the Hawks. Saturday Corning turned back Bishop Timon of Buffalo 14-7. And, it was seven different players that figured in the scoring led by David Grimaldi with four goals and Kyle Clarkson who finished with 3 goals and 2 assists. Branadon Griffin added 2 goals and an assist while Mike Ruggles finished with 2 goals. While short handed, the Tigers made a game of it after trailing 9-2 at the half. Timon popped in four unanswered in the third quarter to cut the lead 9-6. Corning must have gotten a wakeup call in the fourth as the Hawks took a 5-1 scoring edge to claim the 14-7 victory, running their record to 7-0. Bishop Timon drops to 1-2.

Corning NY- Unleash the Kraken...may be the motto for Corning Hawks boys lacrosse. Tuesday night at Memorial Stadium the Hawks ripped off five first half goals enroute to a 12-4 decision over previously undefeated Seton Catholic. David Grimaldi got things started on a feed from Kyle Clarkson, then added his second goal of the game a short time later after Tanner Morse buried a shot to make it 2-0. Morse finished as the scoring leader with three goals and an assist. All total, nine Hawks players figured in the scoring as the team played without Jake Woodhouse, the team's leading scorer, who was hospitalized for treatment of a collapsed lung. Corning travels to Chenango Forks Thursday then returns to host Bishop Timon (Buffalo) on Saturday.

Painted Post NY- Pitching and hitting carried the Corning Hawks to their first ever win over the Elmira Express in the first ever game now that both districts have consolidated teams. Elmira started the scoring, plating a run in the first. The Hawks came back, riding the bat of catcher Megan Lewis who powered a two-run shot well beyond the leftfield fence.

Meanwhile, Quincy Lewis pitched her second complete game in as many days and retired 15 batters on strikeouts. She did, however, give up three homeruns, including two off the bat of Express first baseman Abbie Topping. Like her sister, Quincy Lewis also hit a pitch over the fence.According to "Q" she was just looking for a pitch to hit.

Horseheads NY- Corning Hawks Girls Lacrosse Coach Kim McNaney was concerned about the team's defense prior to Wednesday's meeting with Horseheads. Message to Coach....everything looks good...the offense may sell alot of tickets this season based on their performance at the Raiders Lacrosse complex. Led by Senior Mallory Frysinger's 5 goals and 1 assist, the Hawks burned the twine for 20 goals and limited the Raiders to 4 scores, three in the first half, and were never threatened. Michelle Schwartz of Corning finised with six points(4 goals/2 assists).The win snaps a one game losing streak.

Endicott NY- Prior to this season's staart Corning Hawks Coach Bob Streeten might have reason to be concerned about his offensive firepower. Afterall the Hawks graduated nearly 90% of its starting attack. Well, not to worry...three games into the season, the young Hawks spread the wealth around enroute to a 14-1 thrashing of Union Endicott.Thirteen different Corning players figured in the scoring as the Hawks improve 3-0. Jake Woodhouse led the scoring with three goals whilte Jordan Crusha and Eli McCaig finished with two.McCaig also had two assists. Corning travels next to Owego Saturday for an 11AM game.

Painted Post NY- It was a wind swept playing field that greeted Corning and Binghamton to launch the 2012 season, perhaps an omen for the Hawks and Patriots. It turned out to be a game of of ties, lead changes, highlighted by rallies, and sparkling defensive plays. Binghamton got on the board first and Corning answered as each scored in the first.Both scored four runs in the second making it 5-5.The Hawks took a 6-5 lead after retiring the side in the third.Binghamton added three runs in the fourth to take an 8-5 lead and proceeded to hold the hosts in check til the sixth inning.Corning sent nine batters to the plate, scoring five runs on three hits, making it 11-8. After a seventh inning lead off double by Matt Eggleston,Corning relief pitcher Pat Fero got the next batter to pop to third. The next batter walked, however, the Hawks defense turned a game ending double play to end the game giving Corning it's first win of the season.Hawks Coach John Knapp comments on the win.
